Deborah Osei Boakye continues her grandfathers craft with this extraordinary design. Each strip of kente cloth requires considerable effort, and the looms are worked with both hands and feet.
Each color has its own meanings in Ashanti culture, and the patterns themselves are carefully chosen symbols, which a master weaver develops and names.
These design are named as follows.
1- i Nsatsia, /i meaning "fingers" in the Akan language. Its motifs suggest interlocking fingers from both hands. Turcoise orange brown.
2- i Atwedie, /i the Akan word for ladder. Orange green sandbeige
3-This design is named i Nsa Nua, /i meaning "loom" in the Akan language. Red Beige Brown
4-symbolizes the feminine essence of life; yellow stands for wealth, preciousness, vitality and fertility.
