The Dictator - Shades of Glory

(From the first journal entry of Adeze Afri Kanza, Supreme Leader of Afrikanza, written moments before his inauguration.)

March 2 – Presidential Inauguration, Capital Square
Weather: Ceremonial. Atmosphere: Predatory.

They chose me because they thought I couldn’t win.

The Council called it a “unanimous decision,” but I could smell the relief in the room. A compromise. A harmless placeholder. A man with no faction deep enough, no allies strong enough. The type of man who sits still while stronger men reload.

Let them think that.

This morning, just before the ceremony, I reached into my coat pocket and pulled out The Dictator—aviator frames, dark as oil, cold as intent. I put them on slowly, deliberately, while the cameras clicked and the generals whispered.

They think they’re watching another disposable ruler join the pantheon of thieves. They don’t know I’ve already begun. That I will smile as they think they lead me. That I will nod as they tie their own ropes.
